Nature Of The City is a visual and semiotic study in the relations between architecture and patterns of human behaviour and an attempt to portray the city as distinct flows of human activity.
During a course on the theme "Public Design" I became interested in how the quality of buildings and urban spaces influences our behaviour and how we change the character of the urban environment itself by the way we use it. I wanted to experiment with ways of capturing and representing these interactions graphically on intention to show the city from a new perspective. The result is a visual language based on dots and traces representing individual citizens and their movements over time and a series of portrays of diverse areas of the city (central station, a trafficked intersection, the town hall square, a small pedestrian street, etc.). I also created an exhibition concept including a series of modifiable sculptures / blockings that should be placed at busy streets interfering with the traffic of the passers. These interactions should then be captured digitally and be presented as realtime graphic at large screens installed other places in the city. The project is developed at the Institute for Visual Communication, DKDS |
